CEDERBERG MOUNTAINS
To fully appreciate the power of time and the connections we feel to those who came before us, try standing under an overhang of a Shaman’s Cave in the Cederberg. Your eyes are drawn to the ochre figures painted in these caves thousands of years ago by the San people, and you feel a sense of discovery – as though you are the first person to lay eyes on them.
There is a strong sense of magic, mysticism, and power that you feel with every step that you take. The area has over 130 sacred sites and as you explore, you lose your sense of time and feel an incredible connection to the present and past. This is the moment of self-realisation and appreciation that any spiritual journey should give you.
There is a spiritual presence here that we can draw on – the spirit of the ancestors. Gaze at the mantis-headed goddess, stick figures carrying bags, and ochre handprints that seem to have come to these caves to draw energy for their journeys.
